Oh man are you serious? I just blew my wad on an older Ray too! Damn! I gotta say I am curious in how much better those intonated nuts might sound. And Mahogany body? does it come with maple or ebony fretboard as an option? Dang!

Rosewood only. One color (the trans red), only 4 string . . . the only choice is fretted/lined fretless/unlined fretless . . . makes the decision pretty simple!

I played one today at guitar center, it was really nice. it's one of the heaviest rays I've ever played, being solid mahogany. The neck was painted and was nice and fast. I usually don't like the feel of Stinreay necks as compared to a Sterling but this one I liked. The matching headstock is the icing on the cake, it just looks sexy as all hell.

You still get that the clasic Ray tone, but there was something defintely different about it, although I can't put my finger on it. But this just in... the string throlugh body, to me atleast, makes a different in sustain. I did not do a side by side, but the notes were ringing outclearly and long. $1800 is kinda steep, but if I had the cash, I'd snag one up.

But if I did have the cash, I think id walk out with a Fender Jaguar... I love Rays, but damn that jag...

Heh, I have a thread about it somewhere where I gave it a short little review, but I think it died, lol.

I absolutely loved the thing, If I have the cash for it, I may get it, either that or a glaub w/ a darkstar, haven't made up my mind yet. The SR kicks out some serious booty though, you'll be good playing almost any style with that thing. Check out the 2006 LE MMs too, freakin sweet lookin.

is there a compensated nut, or are they incorporating the Buzz Feiten tuning system?
All of the new Rays I have seen have the compensated nut. It looks weird. But I am sure its a cool idea. Though how many open notes does anybody play?
BTW at GC the price on the 30th is like $1750 on sale
tempting, But I want a 5string bongo first. Or a Spector rebop 5 in black stain.

Its not for open notes, those are the easiest to keep intonated. If I remember correctly, the compensated nut helps the intonation of the first 5 frets or something.

I played a 30th aniversary Sterling at GC in San Bernardino on Saturday. It was the exact same color. The neck was finished on it which felt really werid on a Musicman bass. The finish was beautiful though. I didn't even notice if it had the compensated nut or the body wood. It was just infatuated with what a pretty face it had.

The assistant manager saw it at the exact same time I saw it. I played it a little and as I stoped playing and was getting ready to put it back on the stand he asked me if I was going to buy it. I said "I'm thingking about it. It looks really great with the matching headstock and finished neck but, no, probably not since I since I just bought my new Fender jazz" He replied..."Great!.. than I'm gonna buy it" He grabed it from me before I got it back on the stand and ran to the back office with it.:bawl:

Had that been an HH model that Sterling would have been mine. I would have knocked his @$$ out for it if I had to.:spit:
