$35 Exquisite P-bass, Unboxing and Review

So a week ago there was a buzz on TB about these $35 basses.

The Cobalt Blue color looked cool.

I had absolutely no need for another bass, but for $35 (and free shipping), I could not control my mouse click. I rationalized that I needed to make a Fretless bass out of it.

Plain brown with no printing or logos. Same NJ address as the Glarry bass I got a month ago.

Opening the box, I saw the bass and just some random stryofoam squares.

The squares were not glued to the sides of the box, just strewn about.

Opening the foam bag, I discovered my new "Cobalt Blue" bass was actually "Robbin Egg Blue".

I know, I know.....you get what you pay for....

It came with a 1/4" cable and a Truss and Bridge allen wrench set.

it's $35 - nothing wrong with robin's egg blue unless you play death metal.

and wouldn't you know the blowout happens the one week i'm not on TB...

Back of Headstock. No grease on these tuners, I'd put a TINY amount on them (or at least some Graphite Powder (used to lube locks - next to the keys at the hardware store)

These turned OK, but need some lube.

No logo, no serial number, no "Made in China"; completely unmarked.

Nut is cut pretty well.

A properly cut nut will have more of the excess plastic cut away, so that 1/2 of the diameter of the string sits above the nut.

There is a Neck Pocket Gap.

Not as big as a 70s Fender gap, but a gap nonetheless

Her entire backside:

Finish appears flawless.

Neck is almost bare wood the clear is so thin and matte finished. A lot of players love a no-gloss neck, and this is seriously no-gloss.

There is a small finish crack in the front of the neck pocket - just like a real Fender!

No Scarf joint. The neck is a single piece of maple.

Some combination of robots and slavery is the likely answer to how a guitar can be manufactured and shipped for $35.
