35" Versatile Bass <$1k

I'm currently GASing for a new bass to complement my Schecter Stiletto. I'm interested in getting a bass that is 35" scale, 5 string, but capable of putting out Mid's and High's with standard/lighter gauge strings and piccolo tuning.

Anyone have any thoughts? As a precursor - I understand the 35" scale will require thin piccolo strings (0.012-0.015 set) and any bass selected may be lacking in low-end punch. I'm not looking for this, as my Schecter is more than satisfactory through my GK. Just looking for a complimentary bass for solo/melodic work that isn't short scale. I'm not a guitar player after all......

That's a pretty unique approach! Neato.

I'm going the opposite way, replacing my TRB1005 with a Yamaha425. The TRB plays great, but is geared more like a jazz bass, and I'm looking for P tone :)

Well...they play very slick, I'm used to a 34" scale...so it took some adjustment for me. Comfortable otherwise though, and the B string just KILLS. I couldn't believe how good it sounded the first time I ran it through my rig, and through our subs. Huge, period.

But, for what I do the most, which is 70's and 80's rock, a fat P sound works best, so I'm hoping this one finds a good home :)

Any of the ESB Ltd F series from the F155dx on up would be great choice imo. You can of course use std gauage. Some choose the 154 four string and string it BEAD instread of EADG. The fiver of course is normally strung BEADG. You could use light gauge strings if you want to with it. But certainly isnt needed. The esp f series basses have very comfy fast necks, easy reach to nut, etc. Ive played 34 scale basses that felt like reach to nut was further away. I didnt even notice the change from 34 scale to 35 scale with mine.
