350w head into 800w cab, is this ok?

Hartke HA5500 head (500w @ 4ohm, 350w @ 8ohm)

I had been running a Hartke VX410 cab (400w @ 8ohm)
That cab was blown by someone other than myself.
So I've been looking for a replacement..

I found an awesome deal on a GK 410 Neo (800w @ 8ohm)

Certainly a much better cab then what I had been using..
But my question is, is the wattage rating on the GK cabinet stupidly high to pair with my 350w head? Is that okay?

That should be fine.. it will take whatever your head can throw at it.. and if you decide to upgrade the head you have a lot more flexibility..

When you consider that the power rating on the GK cab is probably at least twice what it can actually make use of before farting out why wouldn't it be?

#1 yes, it's stupid to pair together, there will be problems.

It is okay, it will cause no issues. It will probably sound good, and you may gain the luxury of being able to push the amp as hard as you please with no concern for speaker damage.

While there should be no problem, there's ALWAYS concern for spkr damage. It's up to the user to operate your gear within it's limitations. And, ANY amp is capable of blowing ANY cab.

My B-15 isn't capable of blowing my 810. I've tried.

not really. i'm about to do the same thing with a 290ish watt head into a 600w cab - all the reading i've done indicates that nothing bad will happen.

Unless, of course, you take into account that a 290w tube or SS head (not so much micros from what I've seen) can put double that or a little more in peak wattage into a cab, and power handling is mostly based on how much it takes to fry voice coils and not what it takes to make it fart out. Then it's very possible. As always, good common sense should be taken, and don't assume your amp won't blow your cab under every circumstance.
