36 1/2" Bacchus???

I believe it. Look how he cannot fit the whole bass in one picture.

I have large hands but that's almost like having every string and fret spacing like the B string on a Dingwall 
Without fanned frets, that seems like a workout!!

I'm surprised you haven't heard of Knuckle Basses- they've gotten a fair amount of talk here and the company owner is a TBer. They make 39" basses as their standard (I think it may actually be 39 1/4" or something0.
I've seen them but as a fairly new player, I don't need any more of challenge than I already have
I had no problem with the Dingwall but the first to fifth frets on a 39" bass cannot be fun

It sounds just fantastic, and do not let the 36" (not 36.5) scale worry you - it is really not noticeable at all. Seriously. I have played 35" bases which required a conscious stretch over my 34's but this feels just right. I presume most of the 'extra' is taken up body-side? No idea, but I am extremely happy with mine. I have some sound samples somewhere I might dig up for you. Weather or not the 36" scale makes any difference is hard to say without playing an identical 34" bass, but all I know is that the consistency and fundimental of every note on the board is just superb. I think it defines the 'piano like' analogy.
