SWR 4x10 but with only 2 working speakers

If it's cheap enough.
If the two remaining speakers are good.
If you can get replacements for the missing ones.
Then and only then would it make sense.

That’s a lot of money to invest in a cabinet that’s not worth much in stock functioning condition (IMO).

Even IF the new speakers matched close enough to the 2 existing ones…

Dont like mix and match speakers..its a crap shoot to my mind.
So all or nothing and even then you wont know until you fire it up.

When people say they did this old swap stuff and it sounds fine...I always wonder 'how fine'

Save your money and get a newer fully functioning cab.

I tend to think old chassis can be more brittle as the years pass and swaps are risky.
I loved my old SWR/PAS but no need to seek out old cabs imv unless in stellar verifiable condition and cheap as well.

As a serial home builder/butcher, I might be tempted if this were free or next to and I had a project on it could contribute to. The grille material should be reusable, and (hereabouts at least) is surprisingly expensive in small quantities, and maybe some of the fittings might be useful. If two drivers are missing there's an excellent chance the remaining two have been badly abused, so I would assume they were bad. The actual cabinet is surely for the trash. I don't think its worth trying to recycle tolex covered cabs, too much hassle. In fact, as I write this, all that's really good about it is the grille. I'd take it if it were free, but there's not IMHO the potential for a usable bass cab there.

Free is about the right price in terms of utility. I'd turn it into a housing for a fish tank with a porthole motif.

Yep. The math doesn't add up - Buy new speakers for this dumpster-find for twice the price of a decent used, intact, functioning cab? Hard pass.

The cab's not even worth salvage value for the two remaining speakers, unless:

• You were 100% sure the speakers were 100% working.
• You have a close friend who actually needs those speakers to replace blown ones. It would have to be a close friend because no one else is going to trust your "100%" on 20-36 year old drivers.
• Your close friend doesn't shop around and realize he can buy a fully functioning used Goliath II or III for the price of your two used speakers.

It reminds though of something a past Boss said to me when I was promoted to assistant manager

" If you think you have a good Idea run it past me first"

It has been of value for me in all things in life

So OP did good by posting here first

No cab is more expensive than a cheap failed speaker swap or fixer upper.

Ya did good listening to us and not moving forward on that cab.

It's good the op passed on the cab. Cabs like these are best left to experienced hobbyists. I've been down this road with some Ross 12" PA speakers where the tweeters and a woofer blew in band use. Some Emince Bets 12s were just thrown in to replace the old woofers. Years later I decided to replace the tweeters with some others, decided to rear mount them to extend the horn length, designed a new crossover, retuned the cab. I even tackled the almost universally ignored sound reflections between the stamped steel basket and the back side of the cone. It made a large enough difference that I had to adjust the crossover and notch filter. The result was more clarity in the midrange. The project took awhile to complete but was worth it to me. And I learned valuable stuff.
