any tips on buy extra long strings for a fanned fret bass? 34 to 36 scale Low B .120 Low E .90 i dont want any heavier than that please the rest of the sets can be standard long 37" so no problem with those, thanks
DR's "long scale" is 38" in winding length, which is most other manufacturers' "extra long scale". Both DR Stainless Steel Lo-Riders (hex core) and DR Hi Beams (round core) can be custom ordered to include those gauges. Where are you located?
Could be, OP's is the Schecter Stiletto Studio-5 FF, which a 34-36 inches fanned fret and came with Ernie Ball 5 String Super Long #2850 (.045-.130).
yeah that the bass i want to try, actually still dont have it, just want to be sure about the strings i will able to use. and not sure on the DR honestly any other options?
Probably you would want to look at D'Addario extensive collections of single strings, especially that you'd prefer 120 B and 90 E which I can't recall I've ever seen them in one retail set. I've bought GHS, Ken Smith, Elixir single strings, but only their extended range ones (low-B, high-C, or high-F), while with D'Adarrio, I've also bought their "normal range" single strings to customize my sets.
i love daddario but they dont have super long SS in 120 gauge, they jump from 110 to 125 but they have 90 available, still looking...
I've been using Ken Smith Rockmaster Stainless Steel Roundwounds in their Extra Long Scale to fit on my 35" scale Lakland with the strings thru-body loaded. Unless your 36" is also rear-loaded that oughtta fit, and I'm pretty sure Smith makes a .120 low B
Following up with the OP's inquiry, similar situation except I don't have a multi scale bass, just a 36" scale. I definitely have to have stainless steel strings. Any suggestions for round wound stainless at that scale? Someone said DR will customize length. So Lo-riders at that length - has anyone tried those longer than 34" scale? I am disappointed Rotosound doesn't offer a long scale stainless. Maybe I could contact them on custom lengths past 35". Thanks for everyone's input.
I don't know where you got the info, but I've never heard of DR customizing winding lengths on their strings.
