For what it's worth, I personally mesh better with the OG DOOM 2s a bit more than the revoiced "2.1"s. Something to consider when allocating one of these pedals. I find when stacked for synth tones it has a more monolithic tone, sounds very cohesive like a singular waveform. The newer ones come across more like someone threw a bit of detune on
That’s really odd. I’ve owned a v2, and now have a v2.1 which hasn’t exhibited that issue (at least I haven’t noticed). Also, the new crossover fq point didn’t seem as obvious as I had expected.
Do you remember what setting you used on the v2.1 that gave you the detuned sound?
I wouldn't call it an issue, merely a quirk of the newer circuit. It's fairly subtle, and I notice it mostly when going DI out my amp instead of through the cab. I think it's likely tied to the cross over frequency more so than the midrange frequency, I think the thicker lower end is what i would say gives it that more cohesive sound.
It's totally personally preference, I think both sound really cool so I'm hanging on to both for now. Was more so just bringing up that the newer ones might not be to someones particular taste sound wise, but the finishes are much nicer

I also prefer the original voicing of the Doom 2. It does low gain bass synth so much better (at least to my ears) than the revoiced version. If I wanted more of a traditional fuzz pedal then the revoiced version would be my preference.

+1 here. to my ears the newer revoiced doom2s are more mid range oriented imo. not a bad thing at all but i like the original doom2 for the more pronounced synth tone

Yep, I did too. Selling my big box Octabvre was always a big pedal regret for me. Glad to be getting this one in the next few days.
Is there a simple way to determine if a Doom 2 is original or revoiced circuit, and did Spencer release a description of the revoice?
I'm assuming that the new stainless steel doom2s from last year are the first batch to be revoiced. Very curious about that high gain version...
@shon is correct: the easiest way to tell is the finish. As of today, all the Blood Red, Jade Metallic, and Cosmic Metallic Doom 2 pedals are revoiced while all the Hot-rolled Steel, Black Oxide, and Ghost Doom 2 pedals are original voicing. If you navigate to the "Past Releases" section of the 3 Leaf Audio website you can see images of each finish as well as the number of units in and date of each release.
From Spencer’s email last June:
“For 2023, the DOOM 2 circuit has a minor update - I've incorporated a few of the changes I made while developing the HIGH GAIN MOD. Besides having more gain, the new circuit has a bit more upper midrange presence, a modified treble control, and a higher crossover frequency. The circuit can still be tuned further for guitar use on special request. This is the most dynamic and powerful version of the DOOM 2 to date.
The new enclosures are made in Oregon from 304 stainless steel and given a brushed surface finish. 304 is twice as expensive as mild steel but it will still look good in 50 years, so I think it's worth it. These pedals look really great. The brushed surface promotes good ink adhesion too. I'll be using this material for everything going forward.”
I guess I’ll be the first to say that I’m loving whatever Spencer did with this newer version. It still stacks amazingly with other pedals, eg, I prefer my EHX BMS going into the D2 than using the BMS’ square wave voice, and my overdrive also sounds great going into it as well. The new Doom still does the low gain synth thing too perhaps with more clarity and punch than before at the cost of a bit of smoothness in its voice. Welcomed changes IMO. Horses for course and whatnot
