4-12 Bass Cabinets

True story.
IMO, IME, how a cab sounds is much more about tuning the drivers to the box (or failing to) and crossover execution and hi freq componentry, if your cab uses two/three way design.

IMO, it's not a good idea to generalize the sound of a 4x12 cab based on just the one cab that you've previously tried, since they can sound just as different to each other just as any other speaker size & configurations do.

+1 on the heavy thing - I play through a Mesa Boogie Carbine M6 2 x 12 combo, and it weighs over 100 lbs. The 4x12 add-on cab is 136 lbs., while the 2x12 is only 78 lbs.
I'm all about the sound, but more to the point, getting the best sound from the least amount of equipment (efficiency) is KEY. I can level a building with my 600W combo, and I will NEVER go bigger, unless some amazing gig called for me to get another 2 x 12 or a 1 x 15 cab.

Love the story! I can hear the Dos Equis commecial music playing...

Can you buy slider rails for the aggie and others that don't have them?

From the pictures I've seen on the internet, neither the GS or the DB412 cabs have the skid rails, but with a good slip cover it's not really a big deal. Like I said, I move my Mesa around and it's still in great condition. I just put the cover on it, and tilt in and push it to get it up stairs, or counteract the weight of the cab to get it down if that makes sense. I had an Ampeg 810e before I bought my Mesa and that thing was a pain to move compared to this Mesa. It's literally just tilt and roll, handles on every angle. It's really worth looking at if you're looking to purchase a 4X12 in that price range.

They also come in a fabric grill cloth version if you prefer it over the metal grill.

12" Speakers are this century's Ten inch speakers.:D

I am quite satisfied with my SWR 12 Stacks. Sadly they are no longer manufactured. The Aguilar GS 412 was my first choice but could not find 2 used ones. They use the same Eminence driver as the SWR. Part # 0067085000.
Each to his own but consider them if you can find them used.

Rock on. :p

Those SWR cabs: never could understand why those didn't take off.
I'd guess because they so don't sound SWR....

They do what they do very nicely, and weigh quite a bit, if I remember...

Dude: 8 12's: nice.

The SWR 12-stacks are cool and were a heck of a deal when they were being blown out. They work really well with tube heads and SS amps with big low end like the M6/M9 and Landmark 600. I eventually sold mine but I did have the 12x12 wall of doom for a while! That rig could really rock the coffee house gigs I yell ya!

I've been itching to 'downgrade' my 610 to something smaller. I'm probably going to end up moving to a 410.
What is the size comparison of a 412 to a 610?

Most 412s are bigger than 610s with the exception of Bergantino, which is the same size. Generally, 412s are around the 810 size.

THANX CHEF.

Yep, they don't sound like my SWR 410's for sure. I always turn the tweeters off, hit the bright switch to on, Use Rotosound RS66LD.:bassist:

I do like the fact that I can stack them and concentrate(beam) the power. :p Tip the scales @ 102 lbs BTW.

tubes? The Sunn Model T, a 1973 with 4 6550 lights 'em up real nice like:hiding:

Peace and Happiness to all

I'm working on a 4x12 vertical stack. I have 3 Aguilar GS112s and need just one more.
Granted, I don't really need one more, I just want one more. I find the single 12 cabs much easier to load in/out. The modularity allows many more options for transporting.

I love my 3x12 stack. I can hear it well, it is plenty loud and has great tone. I just gotta get one more for an even number. :D

I played a TVX412 for years with a Firebass, SVT III Pro and a Thunderfunk head. It was loud, had great tone and was built like a tank. Thank God for sturdy casters!
