See, if you quote a specific post it looks like you're asking a question to the poster; if the latter has been missing from TB for a while it's improbable, if not impossible, that you'll receive an answer. You can check for "last seen" date by clicking on the username or avatar - if not, just go to the profile page and check for last posts.
As you've seen, some people like to poke fun at bumpers of zombie threads, and others are extremely annoyed at them (the bumpers) because they (the annoyed ones) often are fooled by them (the threads, after posting, often quoting the opening post or early replies, then realising the thread's been inactive for years): you can disagree with these stances but that they occur is an unavoidable fact.
As for me, I do disagree, provided the zombie summoner knows what (s)he's doing: either asking a still active member for information, or asking whomever may have an answer related to the topic, especially if the latter is not dealt with in more current threads (in fact, I like when information on seldom-discussed instruments or gear is concentrated in one place).
If the posters you're quoting are still around but the posts themselves are from, like, a decade ago, expect them to have moved past the gear in question and remember little about it (I'd tell you to check if they still own it, again in their profile page under "Current Setup", but not everyone fills in the info in the first place, let alone meticulously keep it up to date).
If you are instead asking the question to no particular individual, make sure this is clear ("hey folks", "does anyone know" or equivalents).
Also, you'll get less grief if you acknowledge that it is a zombie thread with a short disclaimer. You can be apologetic, or use humorous references to zombie related lore, or just be terse and to the point; anyway you definitely want to preempt leg-pulling and ruffled feathers by communicating that yeah, you are aware it's an old thread thank you very much, now that we're on the same page with respect to thread dates does any of you folks happen to know the answer to my queries?
Lastly, how to start a new thread.
Go to the sub-forum general page (here for Amps:BG); locate big yellow button to the right of title "Amp and Cabs [BG]", the one that reads "Post New Thread"; follow the instructions; done!
