I think you'll find within a few years all amps will handle 2Ω loads. the advantage of lower impedances is that the amps will deliver their maximum power, if ever required. I think you're stuck in a "bass amp" state of mind where 4Ω minimums abound. Others come from the pre/power realm where amps capable of 2Ω per channel are the norm.
When I decided to look for a lighter weight amp I did find that bass amps capable of 2Ω operation few and far between. I ended up with the Carvin BX1500. It can handle 2Ω loads per channel and has the power I was looking for. I usually run just a pair of my B2 cabinets, one per channel. This is the way I ran the DCM1000 too. With the BX1500 that gives me about 450W per cabinet. More than I like to be truthful But I don't ever expect to use anywhere near that much.
that's all well and good, but let's say you get another head that will NOT handle 2 ohms - something you fall in love with that different (We do that now and then, you know...)?
I just don't see the "advantage" in using a cab that, by design, may limit you. What advantage are you getting by using 4 ohm cabs?
So the question become this: Does the additional sonic output of 4ohm cabs outweigh the inherent potential limitations they impose?
I ask this as a guy who runs two 8ohm cabs using a mid-powered amp (Ashdown ABM500) and finds that he has more headroom than he knows what to do with. True, I'm not in a loud metal band - but I suspect that I could keep up with darn near any guitarist/drummer with the rig I have (should I want to!)
good luck getting that much wattage through it. or the carvin neo cab. that 600w and 700w power handling ratings are when the voice coils burn out. in the case of the dna, that 1400w spec is ridiculous. you'll be lucky to get half that wattage into a 210 without it sounding like it's going to blow up.

no 210 on the market with the possible exception of basson or acme can take 500w. and even they i don't think could take 500w.
I've been looking at SWR 2x10 cabinets lately to replace my Carvin 4x10, and I noticed that SWRs come with either 4 or 8 ohm ratings. Which would be the better choice?

The most you can expect a 2x10 ten to actually handle before reaching driver excursion limits is 200 watts, no matter what the 'specs' say. The highest sensitivity possible is 100 dB/watt. And most 2x10s fall short of both those figures. Taking that into consideration debating whether an amp is able to deliver 500 watts into a 4 ohm 2x10 or 350 watts into an 8 ohm 2x10 is a purely masturbatory exercise.
If you are going to use a 2x10 cabinet then get it in a 8 ohm load, you may not need the added air movement right now, but there may come a time you may want to add another cabinet. It will be a lot easier to add another 8 ohm or even a 4x10 4 ohm if your head can handle a 2 ohm load.
8 if you want two, and 8 if you want one, too. unless you're using a very low power amp, you'll likely have more wattage than a single 210 can take anyway.
