I've found another (bit of a cheapy but may do me) - Schecter Stiletto Sub - anyone know anything about this one? Looks like it has been discontinued, can'y find it on their site.

I converted an Epi Ripper and a Washburn Taurus T24 to BEAD tunings, and no problems with either. The models mentioned that come with lower tunings as standard and fairly pricey for the average player. Just a tip. You can convert any 4 string to BEAD tuning. You just have to file your nut and possibly bridge saddles a bit.

I'm trying to get some details on 4 string basses that have been designed from the ground up for low tuning (typically B-E-A-D).

So far I've come across Scheter Scorpion, Sandberg Terra and the Warwick Dark Lord. Are there many others out their?

I cant speak for anything but Warwick,& the Dark Lord has bigger string saddles & nut slots to accomodate the fatter strings.The body wood chosen,french ash,is better suited to handle lower frequencies,as are the pickups & their positioning.The overall size of the body is larger than the Vampyre bass it is modelled on & it's a bolt on.

thought i wud throw in my 2 cents, the strings that the dark lord comes equipped with are .85 through to .175 gauge, now i bought a set of these from Rotosound, (not warwicks own i know) unfortunately the .85 was too thick to be tuned to High E (Drop B tuning) but ive noticed that these work well for drop b and they have great sustain and best of all they fit my bridge and nuts fine on my BC Rich Zombie Revenge. Maybe something for people with 34 scale to try? i dunno
