4 string body vs 5 string body

Hi I was wondering bar the neck pocket & pickup routes on a 5 string body vs 4 string body are the other dimensions the same ie body width & length?
The rason why I am asking is I would like a MM stingray 5 string but I like the looks of the 4 string ie dont like the 5 string pickguard etc. So I was thinking of geeting a 4 string body & change the neck pocket and pickup route . Thanks

The neck "tongue" on the body is narrower, so adding a wider neck would look a bit off. Plus, going through the nightmare of trying to find the right 5 string bridge would be a LOT of trouble.

The US Made SUB Stingray 5 and Stingray 5 Classic are both basses that are essentially the 4 string version with a 5th string.

Granted, they both use the 2 band preamp, but if you wanted to change to a 3 band, it's a lot easier to do that than to change out the neck, pickup, bridge, and modify all of those areas to fit.

I recently finished a similar project converting an OLP 5 string Stingray to a more 4 string looking body. You might find building a new body from scratch or possibly even slicing off the old body wings and gluing and shaping new ones give a better result. Here's the one I did.

My OLP, and what it has become.
Thanks for the info up in arms at the moment what to do I guess more food for thought
