4001 Mashup

In the mean time, I made a couple of pickup covers. Not quite finished, but I don't want to put more work into them if I decide I won't use them. And of course, I set the neck aside, and knocked it over, denting the side of the fretboard. I got most of the dent out with a wet cloth and a heat gun, but it's still there. I might be able to sand the rest of it out before I install the frets.

What is this thing you call, "recoed, record sto, store, record store"?

Zia Record Exchange

Zia Records - they buy and sell CD's, Vinyl, DVD/Bluerays and all sorts of pop culture stuff, comics, books, action figures, incense, posters, etc. They even sell musical instruments. I bought an Alesis Midiverb there, a RoadRunner rack case, I even got the gig bag for my axe bass there. It's one of the few record stores still around. They have like 4 locations near me. One of my favorite stores.

No worries Mapleglo, I'm glad it worked.

I currently debating whether or not to pick up an Ibanez ric copy that is missing the fretboard, pickups and part of the pickguard for about $200. Everytime I see this thread, I start doing a little list of what I'd need to do to it to get it working. If I grab it, I'm thinking of making it a 4000 style with one pickup, maybe a bisonic in the middle posiiton?

How did that hammer work for you? Did you cut the tang off each end?

The hammer works well. Since it's plastic, I feel I can whack the fret pretty hard without doing any damage. With the brass, I think I may have had reservations. I nipped of the ends of the frets, and I'm filing them down now. That seems to be as much work as radiusing the fret board.

These are great, and easy to make.

I took a block of hard maple and used my table saw to cut a 60 degree slot close to the edge of 1 side, and a vertical slot close to the edge of the other side. Then I got a flat, double-sided mill file which press-fits into the slot. Very easy.
I have them and heartily recommend.
Also have these:

For those who are curious, a local store has two of these. I didn't take a photo of the other one, but they are both the same design. This one has no hardware, including no truss rod nut, but it does however have a nice fretboard. The other has a working bridge, tuners and electronics, but no fretboard or truss.
