410 or 2x210?

I've been faced with this same choice as I plan to trade up to lighter speaker cabinets.

The economic argument is in favor of the 410. Stick to one manufacturer and product line, and one of the 410s is cheaper than 2 of the 210s.

The modularity argument is in favor of the 2x210. For something small, just bring the 210, for a larger gig bring both.

The portability argument will depend on you and your situation and the cabs you're looking at.

The sound argument can also boil down to the individual cabs you're looking at, and I'll let people wiser than me in such things discuss it.

Yup, everything you've mentioned is currently what I'm thinking over. Eden 2x210XST (or 1 xst and 1 xlt )
or Eden 410XST
Sure is quite a bit cheaper for the 410...

Typically the two 210 cabs can go deeper a bit better than the 410 because there is a bit more internal cab volume per speaker.

Two 210 cabs vertically aligned will allow for better dispersal of mids. With the 410, each vertical alignment of tens will cancel some frequencies out at various points relative to you and the cab placement.

Two 210's stacked vertically also place the top speakers closer to your ears making it easier to hear yourself.

Two 210's are more modular and with each one being lighter than one 410, easier to move. Also a 410 is harder to fit in some vehicles.

Any one speaker damaged in a 210 will still allow you to use the other 210. If you blow one speaker in the 410, the others may follow suit soon.

I don't see much advantage to a 410 versus two 210's except perhaps price.

+1 on all counts. And you can't leave half of a 410 at home when you don't need it.

Lot's of good advice and insights offered already, so I'll add my perspective in brief.

I have 2x210 (Epifani) AND an Epifani UL1 410. The possibilities are very cool.

210: (either UL1 or NYC) 8 ohm, One carry with Shuttle 6.0 and 2 basses in a Mono duo backpack.
2x210: major booty, two carries. Loud loud loud.
410: (4 ohm) Loud and elegant. Takes up less total space than 2x210 in my Elantra Touring wagon.
210 + 410: Loud booty badness---but when you need it, you got to have it.
I have ventured no further.

If I had to choose, I would probably take an 8 ohm 210 and a 4 ohm 410. Each driver gets equal power. However, I am somewhat addicted to the 2x210 booty, i.e., superior low end and low mid response.

210 and a 410 sounds like a good idea to me.

+2

I can't see many things favoring the 410. Maybe some personal situations like you've got plenty of vehicle to haul it but parking, unloading, locking up and making one trip in the bar and being able to be loud is for some reason of utmost importance to you. And that the volume may come a little cheaper, not enough compared to the benefits of a vertical 10 stack to make it worth it IMO. If you have a smallish car it's a heckuva lot easier to fit several smaller things in it than one large thing.

I'm using an Eden 210XST on the bottom and an Eden 210XLT on the top (both 8 ohms) quite often now. I'll use my Eden WT550 or sometimes my Mesa 400+ with these cabs. A pretty good combination but I'm starting to think I wish I had a 6x10 cab. I don't own any 4x10 cabs.

Currently going through the same dilemna after buying a Traynor SB500H and renting a Traynor 410 cab. That cab is a beast to carry, but the rig sounds absolutely beautiful: full, round, deep, a tad dirty and fits in my band's sound perfectly, so much that I took the BDDI preamp off my pedalboard.

When something sounds good, you don't wanna change it. But after reading this thread, I'll be looking into the 2x210 Traynor cab option and rent a 410 when needed to get 610 awesomness.

Also thinking of getting the 1510 cab...

Anybody got experience with 2x210s Traynors ?
