410s: Bag End vs. Ampeg

I wanna know where he's getting these sweet deals, man. Seems like last week he had a awesome deal on an Aguilar S810. I'm jealous....
Oh, and BagEnd all the way. Ampeg does one thing well, but the BagEnd is more versatile.

Another vote for Bag End. It's not my favorite 4x10 cab (and I'm a Bag End fanatic) but I like it more than an Ampeg for sure. If it's the deep one, it will have awesome sound, but awesome weight too.
Seriously, the Q10xd is a STEAL NIB at $475.
To me it is a whole universe above any ampeg cab. Ampeg cabs have a very distinct sound. A Bag End is basically studio flat with plenty of headroom and pure sound. you get out what you put in. Dial in your pre/equ right and your bag end will sound like an ampeg. you'll never get that range out of an ampeg cab. They have tons of eq built right into the box.
Plus, I've always thought you follow the sound from your ears back. You can have the greatest bass in the world. Play it through a flat cab and it will sound flat. On the other hand, I still have my first bass (cost me around $150, new), and it sounds great through my bag end gear.
My point is, first spend your money on speakers, then on a good amp setup, then get a the bass of your dreams, you'll sound the best you can as early as you can, and you'll make the biggest improvements in your sound earliest.
Of course a bass that is well setup, and playable to you is the most important thing, but if you like your current bass, get the bag end. You'll usually be happy with the best!!!

no speakons, but you can order a new back plate that does.
and it'll fit in just about any car that you care to squeeze it in.
Waitaminute!!! you used to roll an 8x10, and apparently had no problems hauling it, and you're asking about the portability of a 4x10?!? i don't get it.
nah man, i just bought a motorcycle, and don't plan on using my truck that much anymore.
the car in the family gets good gas mileage, so i'd like to drive that to gig if the 410 will fit.. Gas money is killing me and the band you know?

and yeah, you'd order the backplate from BE. last i heard it was around 30 bucks, and a quick fit.
I've put a lot of bag end cabs together on one channel. I've never heard a bad combination. I use a 2x10 and and 18 now, but have been across the spectrum. I've run q10xd w/ a q10d. Sounded great, but one cab had a tweeter. Still, I'm sure they'll pair just fine.
And BE cabs are among the most portable and lightweight, no problem getting it into any car around.
also, as a long timer w/ BE, you should consider that Bag End has some of the best customer service around. "When you buy your cab your serial number will initiate a 6 year warranty (or maybe 5 year?) that covers everything. Plus, you can sell the cab and the S/N will be all the new owner needs to make a warranty claim.
Add to that top rate customer service and technical support. The truth is that a lot of SWR cabs are identical to bag ends, and even use bag end drivers, but their service isn't even close.

I brought my Q10BX-D to a venue that had an Ampeg 410HLF in the house rig.
During setup I did a quick A/B with my Ashdown ABM500. The Ampeg sounded good enough until I switched over to the Bag End, which filled out the large room without PA support and sounded leaps and bounds larger, deeper, less muffled than the ampeg. I was very happy to be going home with my Bag End.
