can you piggy back a 4 ohm onto an 8 ohm cab? would that give me 6 ohms impedance? is there such a thing? would it work? thanks.

So in most of the cases I have 2 cabinets connected to an amp, no matter if they are connected directly to the amp or daisy chained, they will be in parallel?
I always thought the daisy-chain would be wired in series!

Considering an amp with 2 connections for cabinets, what would be the advantages/disadvantages of connecting 1 cabinet to each connection on the amp or connect just one and daisy chain the other?

Connecting them in parallel as you indicate would result in 2.67 ohms. You don't add the impedance, you have to calculate (cab1 * cab 2) / (cab1 + cab2).
That's (4 * 8) / (4 + 8) or 2.67.
If your amp cannot handle a load below 4 ohms, don't do it!
