4ohm and 8ohm cabs

okay so if i wanted to get 2 cabs in parallel i would have them each be 8ohms and then set the output of the amp to 4 ohms since this will be the total of the formula.

i just ask because im getting 1 cab at a time and want to make sure i can just get another one of the same specs.

why then is the amp able to go down to 2 ohms? is this to give it some extra give in case it is miss-matched?

Correct. A pair of paralleled 8-ohm cabs results in 4 ohms. Set the amp to match.

If the amp is all-tube and it doesn't have a 2-ohm setting, then I'm not convinced it can handle 2 ohms.

ya im new to tube amps but i understand that it is vitally important not to mismatch impedances with tubes. after 5 years of playing i finally have a great amp to gig with i don't want to blow it up.
