4ohm to 8ohm

No, but you might be able to convert it to 2 ohms. If the original cab is wired series parallel with 8 ohm speakers, wiring all in parallel will result in 2 ohms. If the cab uses uses 32 ohm speakers in parallel you are already at a minimum impedance.
 
Can a 4x10 4ohm cab be converted to 8ohm?
Is it just a matter of rewiring?

I hate to be a prick, but if you're asking this, then you probably shouldn't do it. It takes a decent understanding of ohm's law and a good understanding of series and parallel circuits/wiring.

The short answer is, yes it can be done, by adding dummy loads or a complete rewire (depending on your situation). Is it recommended or will you be happy with the results??? (read above paragraph)

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Adding dummy loads would be dumb. A complete rewire means rewinding the voice coils of the speakers, not rearranging the wires between the speakers to series, series/parallel or parallel. It doesn't matter how well you know Ohm's law and wiring. There is no practical way to do it. So no.
 
Yes BUT it is not a matter of simply rewiring, the easiest way is to replace all the drivers with 8 ohm units and wire them series-parallel. Using a resister inside is not a good option as it doesn't behave like a driver for the amp and may produce undesirable results. The matching transformer will work with less power loss but is VERY expensive. 4 new drivers are going to cost quite a bit also, I think poster #4 said it when he recommended selling the cab and buying an 8 ohm cab as this will usually be cheaper (individual driver prices are much higher than cab manufacturers pay) than buying 4 new drivers and replacing your existing ones.
 
More than likely four 4 ohm drivers in the cab ... if in an emergency we have disconected two of the drivers and the remaining two were wired in series, and the end result was 8 ohms .. but certainly not ideal, and absolutely not something you want to do by intention as the cab is not designed for it ... we did it to finish out a night

... it would work if there were 16 ohm drivers also, two speakers parrallel would be an 8 ohm load ...
