I've been playing an ampeg svt410 hlf for the past few months and love it! plenty of low end plenty or articulation, tilt back wheels, and the towel bar. It may be a little out of your range, but there are a lot on used GC, and you can find them local... I got mine from a local pawn shop in GREAT condition... just my 2 cents....

4x10 cab shootout

Heh, I had a feeling this may happen where at least someone picks each of the above mentioned cabs as their favorite/choice. I called the guy and he sold the Ampeg already.
I'm still debating if I should get into that 8x10 and if I would need it, would be good to get it cheap now and have it for whatever the future brings. However I also am thinking go the route of one of those Peavey TVX 4x10's. It would be smaller and I hear they are beasts as well, but really it is only like 20-30lbs lighter than that 8x10. I have heard great things about Trace being solid and clear sounding and good things about GK, however I have never seemed to have the desire for those brands.
I play Fender Precision basses and most of the time rock tones and I play kind of hard.

8x10's are a HUGE commitment in terms of transportation, loading, and practicing when someone happens to be asleep at home... I know they're tempting, but without a van and or roadie I just don't find them practical and that doesn't touch trying to load one into or out of a basement or upstairs room. In all honesty, i find my svthlf to be more than ample for any size venue with or without a DI and house sound. Plus you can always throw 2 or 4 more tens on top!
Very true. I guess with the SWR 8x10 I was just looking at it because I have read it's a great cab, however I was also looking at it because it was fairly cheap price wise. You are right though with the 4x10's. I had a 4x10 back in the day and I found it to be overall easier to load in and out and travel with. It's not so much a problem because I drive a truck, but yes I get what you mean.
One of the Peavey TVX 4x10's I am looking at indeed does already have some good casters installed on it which is a plus. Plus I know for about another $200 or less I could get another TVX later if I need one and then have basically a 8x10 and my 4ohm amp would then work with all 450w. I have been looking moreso at getting a 4x10 because at least right now I have concluded it would be good enough for what I would use it for right now and could always add another later. Given my budget and based off some reviews I read, opinions and input from you TB members who commented (again thank you) and some video samples I have decided I am either going to buy either a Peavey 410 TVX or a GK 410 GLX to use with my Peavey Tour 450 amp. Like I orginally mentioned the Peavey is priced at $199 and the GK GLX is priced at $149 and both have casters on them. I'm thinking Peavey to Peavey might be the best choice, but the GLX sound good too from what I heard. There is also that GK 410SBX for $174, but no casters. And also they just dropped the price on a Peavey TFX 410 to $119, but again no casters and although speakers look alright the photo is blurry and who knows why it may be priced that low?

I have heard the older Trace stuff is pretty good. I was more so interested in what people had to say about the two GK cabs and that Peavey cab I mentioned above, however perhaps I'll add that Trace into the mix and ask for opinions.
I got an amazing deal on my Genz Benz Uber 410, new...plenty of volume though I'm thinking of trading my Genz Benz Shuttlemax 12.0 for something that'll work well with just the one cab.

Thanks. I'm thinking Peavey as well, however the GK's are a little cheaper. I'm not trying to sound cheap, however I am on a bit of a budget right now.
I have a couple SWR Workingman 410's and they sound pretty good for the price. Be careful running a 4ohm head through an 8ohm cabinet though. It can damage your head as well as the speakers. As long as you're running through a solid state head then it shouldn't have the same negative affects as running a 4ohm tube head through an 8ohm cab. I use run through 2 SWR workingman 410's and an Ampeg SVT Classic head. 2 8ohm cabs paired together is equivalent to 4ohms so it is safe. I've played fairly large shows with it (500+ people) where the sound systems just couldn't push the bass so I could just crank it and it would sound just fine but it does distort a little when pushed too hard. If you're willing to spend a little more money, the Ampeg 410hlf is a great cabinet. It is ported so it gives you a ton of low end compared to other 410's and it doesn't distort. Just a thought.
Also, check out the Hartke vx410. I own that cab and it served me well back in the day before upgrading to an Ampeg. It's considerably lighter than the workingman but still gives you a good punch. You can get them in the $200 range.
