5 string bass choice

That's not about the bass. That's about the player. That being said, wider spacings are less conducive to quick movements & lines.
Have to strongly disagree with this. The neck on the Rebop was so thick I couldn't play the bass comfortably.
It can be adjusted on the bridge, but yes. It personally didn't bother me at all, but it matters where on the list of importance this lies for the OP. For the genres he listed, I feel like it may be perfect for him tonally. It has a lot of punch.
Spacing on the Laklands is pretty wide to me. Both are awesome. I went Lakland.
You must have REALLY small hands. The neck on my ReBop is thinner than both of my Fenders AND every G&L I've picked up!
Not really. My hands are at least average if not larger. I find Fender necks easy and comfy to play. The Rebop I picked up had probably the biggest neck I've ever seen on a 5-string bass. Maybe it was a special one, idk. I just know the Warwicks hanging on either side of it had noticeably slimmer necks. And that I've never had an issue with Fender bass necks (although Fender 5ers are a bit too wide for me).
Width kills me more than thickness though on a bass neck, so it could have been that it was just too wide. It's been over a year since I've played a Rebop so I don't remember that clearly whether it was the width, thickness or just the contour that threw me off but either way it was very uncomfortable.
For $1100 you can get a Carvin SB5000. Great basses that are extremely well made, 19mm spacing and have excellent tone. I just got one about a month ago and it's very impressive. I don't think you can find anything better for the $$$.
It has a 16mm spacing and the strings are only 1.5mm in from either side of the board, so the board's quit narrow. The contour is a thin C, too. It IS a 35" scale, compared to the Fender & Warwick 34". Maybe that's what was throwing you off?
Maybe, dunno. Certainly did not feel like a narrow, thin C contour that's for sure.
It may have been an old Legend, they had baseball bat necks on them that I didn't like either. I don't know if the Rebop line had those old thick necks.

That's a $20-35 option on the SB5000 depending whether you want an H50A or HB humbucker at the bridge position. The neck is an H50A in either case.
My Spector Euro (6) is a sexy beast. Feels great to me but I have small hands. A Euro 5 might have too narrow a spacing for you. I'd at least give one a shot. They are rosewood or pao ferro (sp?) FBs I think.
The Laklands might be up your alley too...more so even. I've never played one but lots of my buddies have and they come highly recommended. I think that they look GREAT too. They seem to be what a Fender should have evolved into imho.
Carvin might not be a bad option since you can get them any way you want.
