5 string bass recommendations?

sorry to be unclear...the school is buying the bass for me to use.
Being a school teacher too I assume that yours is like mine and has to do everything through a PO with invoices etc. Buying new is probably the best in your situation. Peavey, Ibanez, Lakland, Fender, Yamaha, etc. all make 5 string basses in your price range. If you are like me, neck width and string spacing are very important. Each company has its' own idea about what is the proper neckwidth and string spacing not to mention electonics, hardware, body shape, and choice of materials. It really depends on what YOU like.
