5-String dreamin'

So i'm just thinking about getting a 5-string.. nothing concrete yet but what would be a good 5 string to start on? I was thinking maybe an Ibanez ATK? I always wanted to try an ATK... how are the 5'ers?


I don't have a budget since i'm not going to buy it anytime soon but i would say around 500$. I like aggressive growl etcetc. I'd definitely wanna try and play some 311 and Korn with the 5stringer

Well for 311, I'd say go for a Warwick. They're almsot all P-Nut uses, but I think they might be out of your budget range, and mine too. I've been gassing for a Warwick Corvette $$ 5-string for a year.

The Schecter Stilettos looks pretty good too, if you wanna check them out. A custom is the lowest non-beginner model, with a bolt-on neck, and they go in order of quality from there to the studio.

Also check out Yamaha and Peavey for affordable 5's that are good value for the dollar. Specifically the Peavey Millennium AC BXP 5 and the Peavey Grind BXP 5. The Yamaha BB415 (passive) and the BB615 (active) are great basses as well.

I will +1 this. Definitely the best of the bunch for a new 5er that is under $500 IMO. I also think it makes a great backup bass if you primarily play a 4-string. And its pretty easy to upgrade if thats your thing.

The atk is great, so is the 55-01. Personally, I like the feel of the atk better. The 55-01 would be more versatile tonally though.

I have a Schecter Elite 5 and really like it, it has a rather dark, growly sound.

You can usually find used Carvins for low prices. Look for ones with the bridge humbucker (Stingray type) pickup. Very versitile bass.
