Double Bass 5 String EUB Opinions

Hi Mathew,
Yes Karl teaches woodworking at Nauset Regional High School in Eastham. He usually builds bass on custom order only - although he may occasionally just build one for re-sale/speculation.
The 2 basses he built for me are one of a kind custom basses, so you will not likely see any like mine anywhere else. They both have a 41 1/2 " string length (Spirocore/weichs) so transitioning from either of my two Upright string basses to either of my EUB'S is never an issue.

The EADG seem to be Spiro Weich, and the high C a Spiro medium.
You may want to look at a Flexocor high C, for a warmer tone.

A SuperSensitive Supreme high-C is nice too.
I'm not sure if the string is on the market now, but Thomastik was developing a Spirocore Weich high-C and I got a sample which I use on my Clevinger 5-string EUB. I like it there, but not on my 4/4 acoustic.
The SuperSensitive Pinnacle sound fits better to the Spirocore Mittel, but has less tension than these.
I only tried a really old Flexocore high-C (pre-92) on a acoustic and didn't like it with a Spirocore Mittel. But this string has changed and Spiro Mittel is different from Spiro Weich. My one was too short and dead sounding on higher notes. (Why should I use a high-C then.)
The Corelli 389TX high-C might work too, a bit more tension than the SuperSensitive strings.
Mr. Garcia-Fons uses a high-C Flat-Chromesteel (Pirastro) with a Spirocore Weich set or downtuned Spirocore Solo set (maybe a mixture with GDA solo and E weich) for the other strings on his acoustic DB. Can't remember exactly, one of these possibilities.

This was a little higher than I was willing to spend, but I sold the old Gretsch Bass and an old 4/4 Double Acoustic bass so funds were avaliable.
I really like it. No regrets. Stand was a little flimsy, so I contact Long and McQuade and they sent me a more robust stand for the bass - free - now I leave one in my studio and gig with the other. I opted for the E-A-D-G-C tuning as there are only a few songs needed for the low D or C, but many needing the higher C string
