5 string jazz or Stingray

I would never do that trade, 5 string Fenders have never been well regarded, and your Stingray is likely worth $200 - $400 or so more than the Fender, depending on the market and condition of the Stingray....

Don't do it! Hold onto the MM and just save for 5er.

I would consider saving up and get one of the imported Rays, like a SBMM Ray35. They sound fantastic and play super well and you can get one for <500. Way more enjoyable to play than a Jazz V in my opinion but it obviously sounds different. If you want to be able to cover both J and Stringray sounds, and pretty much everything except for a P, there's always the Lakland 55-02 but that's a good bit more coin (but FANTASTIC).

but yeah, get the one you really want and then prune the collection afterwards. let your hands and ears decide.

The Squier vintage modified and deluxe 5 are great options. I'm my deluxe 5, I put in a bass mods pre which was great. In the VM I put in Nordstrand pickups and audere pre. I actually like it better than the fender 5 I had. I've got some nice jazz 5s, but the VM is becoming one of the first ones I pick up

I LOVE my Jazz 5 American Standard (2006 I think).....but had another that was a dog

So you don't know til you try what you are getting

I never play my Stingray 5vers as jazz bass sound is my sound

I like the neck on the 5-string Stingray more than the 5-string Jazz.

I think SR5 have the best neck in the business.....but now I am used to the wider Fender 5vers....I love my Fender Marcus Miller 5 neck the most....Heaven

I've heard good things about the VM 5's (both). I wanted to try a 5'er and picked up a Peavey Millennium BXP 5 (passive jazz) for $100. I only used it for one song in my last show and used my BB1000MA for the rest. I like the idea of a 5'er, just got to find the one. The B makes a nice thumb rest when the string isn't needed. You might want to take a look at the Marcus Miller Sire V7 5'er.
