5 string Ricken-Musicman Bass.

Back to the bass-ics... I'm not sure what it is about this bass, but I really want to play it hard. Not that it doesn't sound great with a gentle touch, but the snap and growl I'm getting when playing aggressively sounds pretty awesome. I've never played a bass that just seems to draw that kind of playing from me.

On the plus side, I'm pretty close to being able to put together a short recording.

That is what my Spector 's do to me. They like to be spanked. I can picture your bass playing lots of rush.

I was playing the other day, and when I adjusted the mid knob, the sound suddenly fizzled and quit. I took it apart to test outside the control cavity, still no joy. Any ideas of where I should point my multi-meter to test things?

I've reached out to Seymour Duncan support, but I'm hoping I don't have to buy a new board.

Ask in the Electronics Forum. They'll know where to start and what to look for. They may even have a hunch of what's going on. In my mind, they're wizards.

Yup. Asked over there too. Unfortunately like most IC's there's not a lot to check out. It pretty much either works or doesn't.

The service at SD is pretty fantastic. I emailed them, next day response. The tech gave me a few things to double check, so I'll see if I can get that done this weekend.

The good news is that if the checks fail, they will replace it under their warranty!
