5-string short scale

Best none-boutique 5-string short scale? Not talking about "baritone-style" guitarish one but a fast-playing, non-floppy bass with a fast, slender neck with string spacing not quite guitar but not 17-19mm either. They make such a beast?

closest thing is a birdsong hy-5. but i suppose it violates the "non-boutique" rule.

I wouldn't think that would work out too well. How thick would the strings need to be to even work?
