5 string suggestion!

The EBMM Big Al must be a great bass, but it's not the kind of look that I'm into!

Never had the pleasure of touching one of these, but if the Big Al ain't your thing lookswise, perhaps this is. And I'm sure i can everything the Big Al can:

I need a 5 string mainly for pop gigs and studio. Here's a few personal preferences:

- 34" scale
- Passive pickups and electronics preferred but could live with active...
- 2 pickups - I dig single coil tone but I need noiseless PU
- Light weight
- Narrow neck
- TIGHT low B
- Budget up to $2-2.5k
- New preferred, but used in GREAT condition ok...

Please, do not suggest Fender (or similar) products - I already have all that I need in the Fender P and J department.

Regarding Musicman: I've had a few Stingray H 4 in the past and I'm not in love with the top end. However, the Sterling 5 HS might be a good choice, even if active... Not sure yet...

Finally, have to admit that I've tried a newer Steinberger XL-25 and despite that the instrument was totally unplayable (problem with the neck, bad overall feeling due to the small squared body, cheeeeap construction, etc), I liked the sound of the passive EMG pickups...

So any ideas welcomed!

I'd +1 the Warwick! Great diversity of tone, played a LOT of bass' before buying and my Jazzman blew me away, plus great bass' if you want something personal by adjusting string hight and spacing (might not be unique to warwick though).

Defintley worth a play with your amp!

Just thought I'd tell you how I'm doing on my search for a 5er.

I'm getting hung up on Roscoe. The Century Standard or Century Standard Plus is in the $2500-2700 range. They look beautifully crafted. However the SKB-3005 might be what I end up with. We'll see. They have Bartolinis with the Bart or Aguilar 3 band preamp.

With that budget consider Pedulla basses.

Carvin. SB or B Series. Or even the neck thru models. All your criteria are met. Depending on how fancy you go, alot cheaper than your budget. Go used and get a pretty good deal, although new isnt bad either.

Older Pedulla Thunderbass with 17.5mm string spacing. Something like 2000 or older. Awesome narrow neck. 34" scale. SWEET B string. Super tight and focused all across the board. Balances well.

I finally decided to go with a Sadowsky MS5. I know I said I was not into J style basses, but I changed my Mind.

Supposed to receive the bass tomorrow morning! Hope I'll be pleased with this one!
