$500 for an amp and cab

Hey all,

I need a new amp and cab for gigging. I do small and medium sized gigs, nothing that requires insane power. I like portability and I prefer 12" speakers. I don't need anything fancy from my amp. $500 budget, but could go plus or minus a bit.

Whatcha got for me, team???

EDIT: by "new" i mean "new to me", used suggestions are totally cool

Fender Rumblee 200 combo is about as close as you can get new -$599.

Used you can probably find a GK MB200 head for about $225-250, then look for a used 410.

It would help to know what style you play, etc.
Never heard of Gallant Sound before, but looking at their website all I see are fancy guitar cabinets, no bass. Sticking a random driver in a random cabinet is an assured recipe for disappointment.

You always get more for your money shopping the used market.
If you liked the GK sound, get a used MB500. The Ampeg PF500 is distinctly different sounding than GK.
If you can find them, the Acoustic BN112 is a great inexpensive 112. Never understood why they stopped making them.
For new in that budget you should check out the Peavey Headliner 112. It's on the heavy side but sounds good.

+1 Fender Rumble 200 1x15 combo at $499. If you absolutely must have a gigable 12, audition a Hartke HD12 kickback = $450.

I emailed gallant sound asking if theyd do a bass cab. I'm not set 100% on it, but I'm looking into it.

I'm not interested in combos, and I'm not interested in 10" or 15", I'm really looking for a head and a 12" cab for small and medium-sized venues.

I play mostly instrumental jazz/neo-soul/alt-country/solo stuff, so I will be using it for electric and upright bass. I don't need to compete with a full band blasting zep tunes or anything like that!

You are going to have to go onto the used market, or seriously raise you budget to $1,000 USD+

A lot of the amps I see for big bucks are like 800w, I don't need near that much power...

I understand a reluctance for combos, but they are cheaper. Gonna be tough, even used, to find a gigable head and cab for that price. Lots of people here gigging with Rumbles.

Watts or no, you're still going to have to fork over the cash $$$.

I have an eden 320 2x12 but its a combo. i think you're gonna have to spend a little more to split that up. my eden is great and bullet proof. 2 or 3 gigs a week for years now. paid tree fiddy for it.

There's a lot of decent gear in the $200-300 range. The 112 is a little harder to find. A PF350 might be a better match for that cab, power-wise.

Rumble 200. You are better off with more power than you think you need, rather than pushing an amp to it's limit. Head over to the Rumble club thread here. You will get good information from @Linnin @Gravedigger Dav and others.
