The techs literally rebuilt the power supply section, the poor thing was just too beat. Like, was spitting fire out the back. Tragic, really.

$500 for an amp and cab

That's a good backup, I liked the TC combo i played a few years ago as part of a backline.
Ok, so now the question is, do I go with this or the GK combo?

I need a new amp and cab for gigging. I do small and medium sized gigs, nothing that requires insane power. I like portability and I prefer 12" speakers. I don't need anything fancy from my amp. $500 budget, but could go plus or minus a bit.
Whatcha got for me, team???
EDIT: by "new" i mean "new to me", used suggestions are totally cool
I grabbed a used GK MB212 on here for $400. I don't think you could ask more of a combo amp. Light, loud, sounds great.

I've got a couple of 12/6 cabinets and a 500W head I use a lot. I can cover a lot with just one cabinet and the head but I need more often enough I've got the other cab. I've also got a Rumble 500 I got used at a fire sale price and I've found myself using it more often when I only need a single cabinet because it's simple quick and easy. Plug it in, plug into it, and I'm styling.
Other than being a combo and not separate head and cabinet, the new kickback Hartke combos fit the bill pretty well. Inexpensive, powerful, good tone, and light. If I wasn't a Markbass and Eden guy I would be looking at them pretty closely.

IF you really look hard sometimes you can find a Rumble 500 w/210....SOUNDS great and very usable on any stage... have fun getting the sound you want.
You could check out Guitar Center's used site. There is some decent gear on there as well as some combos, however I did not see too much in the 12" speaker department. Not to mention unless it happens to be a local GC you may have to pay for shipping as well. The Rumble others have mentioned is a solid choice, especially if you do want new and not "new to you."
Hartke HA3500 or HA5500. Built like a tank, if you can find one in the headcase esp. Paper cones might be better for your style though. You can get the head for 150-250 range, and used 4x10s in the 200-300 range are a dime a dozen. Get a 4ohm(i.e. Hartke 4200 Pro or Ampeg 410HLF, I'm sure there are others) cab if you can and you will have all the clean headroom you will ever need.
IMO, I would shy away from combos if you are looking to get a reliable gigging amp on the cheap. You have the budget for a used, reliable, solid state head and cab that will serve you well for plenty of years to come. Generally* separate heads/cabs are more mid-tier (or higher) offerings from any given company, and thus tend to be more reliable than their combos. Plus, the modularity is always a bonus.
