51’ Single Coil to Split Coil Series/Parallel Wiring Question

Hey all,
I have a 51’ style bass with two single coil pickups. They are wired in series with one volume, and one stacked pot wired for tone/blend adding the bridge pickup. So, I get normal sc hum with neck pickup only, and a humbucker function as I blend in the other pickup in series.

I am looking to swap the neck pickup with a split coil hum cancelling version. If I wire it the same as the previous pickup will that allow for hum cancelling with the blend fully off (neck split pickup only) AND still retain hum cancelling with the bridge single coil added via the split shaft pot blend/tone?

If you swap neck pickup for hum-canceling one, you will get hum with both pickups on.

Yes. It would be basically like having a set of split coil Jazz pickups such as what Lindy Fralin makes.

What do you like about the two single-coil pickups?

I have an old Telecaster bass and a really old single coil P-bass, and I love the single-coil pickups. Am I missing something?

I really like the sound- but the hum has become a problem when playing in quiet situations. I prefer the single coil sound to the series “humbucker” I get by having both pickups on to eliminate the noise.

I’m looking for a way to help with this noise.

so it's really series wiring with the significant low end boost when they're both on?

maybe try wiring it parallel like a normal jazz bass, that might be a more useful sound that still hum-cancels
