want to replace the pickup in my sting sig. anyone try 51 replacements ? need help i think single coils will have too much hum, am i right ?

Well you can't hear the hum when you're rocking out. Pretty much all the major pup makers have a split coil that drops right in the single coil route. Seymour, Dimarzio, etc.
Some guys on tb have said that they preferred the sc tone over the splits and went back and just live with the hum. My guitarist said " what's that hum?"" : my Sq cv 50's. Is asked if he thought it sounded good when we are playing and he said yes so I told him live with it. Lol. Anyway making sure its shielded well will help. You can even try grounding the mags.
I installed a Seymour Duncan SCPB-3 single coil into my Squier CV 50's Precision. It sounds really good - have not noticed any hum.

I have a vintage vibe hum-cancelling 51 p-bass in one of my basses and it's awesome, I don't see the hum-cancelling version advertised on their website but it couldn't hurt to email them.
It's medium hot and aggressive, sounds inbetween a split p and a jazz pickup, and quiet.
