I wouldn't even think about this bass unless it was taken apart in front of me and appraised. Even then, the price is too high for a refin. He says "certified" in the title, but I see nothing about certification within. The story could be a complete fabrication. Oh, and he has zero feedback--which could make sense if he really is an older gent who played with the Everlys, but doesn't help his case.

He'd have done better to try auction off some other, cheaper Everly Bros. memorabilia first, to prove his credentials, instead of going straight in at the deep end. It's gonna require an awful big leap of faith by someone to put a bid on that .

Still, I bet it sounds awesome !

The refin destroys the value. Not just because of the refin itself but because the new solder joints mean you can no longer date the electronics to that body with any reliability.

Well, Joey Paige did indeed play with Everly Brothers, it is well documented, and I think also co-wrote some of their hits with Phil Everly. If this seller is really him chances are the bass is genuine and worth every penny.

This is why I play reissues. I have no quarrel with those who acquired a desirable instrument when they were not "vintage" and now wish to cash in. That's fine, that's the market, that's human nature. I myself sold a '63 Gretsch Chet Atkins Country Gent for many multiples of its sub-$500 purchase price without a qualm.

But that lovely (even if refin) '57 doesn't speak to me in the dulcet tones of thirteen large. I don't know of a bass that would be worth that much, to me.

I just kinda wish we musicians still had access to the old gems.

So I play reissues. I love the early Fender designs, but not the early Fender prices.

Good luck to him. It sounds like he's had a rich musical life, and why shouldn't he get a little back? We had a gentleman around here who had Paul Bigsby make him a solid-body electric mandolin back in the late '40s, who financed a well-deserved retirement in his '70s by selling it for $50K.

I think it ad's legit...the seller probably never learned how to program a VCR and this is his first ebay experience which would explain the unprofessional layout.

I was into the stuff about Bill...I can imagine Bill playing the bass and thinking something like "Nah, too big and too much money; I'll get a Framus next time we're in Germany".

Wyman's claim to playing a Framus is because he has such small hands he couldn't play other noreworthy basses.
