6 string arch top bass, piezo, 33 scale, Claro, roasted maple

I've got piezos in my hollowbody Curbow, and I've found the same thing--they just don't seem all that useful.

But listening to the video and comparing it to my Curbow (which has a deep fully hollow mahogany body, though not as deep as yours!), they both seem to share a wonderful sort of articulation and note separation, and I wonder if that's a function of the kind of modern "hybrid" hollowbody construction with reinforced neck and high-mass bridge....

The piezo is active the magnetics are passive. I won't say never but I haven't yet found the piezo to be super useful the pickups do it all. The soundcloud or YouTube videos are all passive mags.

Hey guys I had hoped I'd have a video review of the bass done by now, but thus far life has gotten in the way, I hope to get it done soon.

In the meantime this bass is absolutely incredible, I've done a bunch of gigs, rehearsals and plenty of practicing and home recording. Enough to know that this bass is my voice, I don't want to play anything else and that is a huge credit to Andrew's ability to take our combined thoughts and carve them into exactly what it needed to be. Basically every group I've played with said if I don't bring the beast every time I'm fired. I've also had the opportunity to get together with a number of bass playing buddies all who have skills and talent that far exceed mine and I've had to pry the instrument out of their hands.

She is currently wearing TI jazz flats and just sounds and feels perfect. I have made the decision to sell all my other basses and am having Andrew make me a second bass..Stay tuned!

That's quite the endorsement, though I'm sure a deserved one. It's great that you've connected with the instrument that way. I'm curious to see what Andrew builds you next.

I've owned a bunch of basses over the years, and I've always honed down to what it was I liked and didn't like, so it was all a big learning experience. I wouldn't try to imply it is the perfect bass for everyone but it is for me. The 2nd bass Andrew is building is basically the same neck, fingerboard, tuners in a bolt on version with a chambered Mahogany body, likely she'll wear rounds and fill a few gaps.

Nancy Lou, my Andrew-built custom, has piezos that really add to the tone when switched on with the art J pickups. I really like the mix of tones together. She has a unique singing quality to her when you blend the pups. I tend to use them a lot, especially when it's just me and a singer/songwriter/acoustic guitar.

Can you run both the main pups and piezos at the same time in the Beast?

I've been working on utilizing piezo lately, I had taken out the battery and was just playing with the magnetics.

I haven't had much success blending the two but I have settled on a nice piezo sound with the tone rolled off and playing over the fingerboard with my right hand rather softly. It produces a nice pulse that I think I will use for some straight ahead jazz stuff.

I don't get much jazz work...I kinda suck at it ... but the combo of piez and Barts works great for Americana and folk and just Bart's nail blues and rock. It's not a traditional tone, but it pops.
