6 string bass

in the works, as it were.

I'm looking for a 6 string, under £500 - At the moment, I've got it narrowed down to the Invalid Link Removed, and the Invalid Link Removed
The annoying thing is that I cant find any online reviews of the ibanez, whatsoever.

So yeah, I was wondering if anyone here has played/owned either, and what they thought of them

Cheers :)

I've got an Ibanez BTB555 which is fantastic value for the money. Solid construction and natural acoustics along with a variable mid 3-band EQ kicks everything within its priceclass. By the way, as with many online store descriptions, it's not loaded with Ibanez pickups, but rather with Bartolini Mk1's.

I own the peavey grind 6 and absolutely love it, it's the only bass i'll be taking to college since it can do pretty much any thing i'll need. I've played the Ibanez model before and found it to be very nice. I thought the neck of the ibanez was a bit larger and for some reason uncomfortable for me to play. The Ibanez i played did not have a very strong B string, in fact i found it to be very weak, unless it was boosted by the active eq. Other than those two problems i thought it was fairly equal to the peavey.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I had a Peavey Grind 6 for about a month. It had some rough spots as far as build quality, but was a beautiful instrument for the price. However, I found the string spacing tight for slapping and the tone to be very dark, especially for a six string where you might wanna do some melodic playing in its upper registers. I ended up selling the instrument.

OTOH, I find my Ibanez much easier to slap on and it is a much better built instrument, something that is reflected in the price difference from the Peavey.

i guess that is something i forgot to mention. I very rarely will play slap or pop style. The peavey is a great fingerstyle bass, but it is quite tight for slap and pop. For that style of playing i would recommend the ibanez. As for the peavey having a dark sound, i would only say this is true if the tone controls are both turned all the way down, otherwise, mine is actually very bright.

it would porobably be a safer bet to get the ibanez for me then, I cant live without full control of mids and highs.

I just had the most depressing practise ever - you know the ones where things you were fine playing earlier in the day just aren't coming out right for some reason - I find that recording a practise and then playing it back to yourself can be good, you see where you're having problems and stuff.

I had the tone controls wide open on the Peavey...still too dark for what I wanted (again, for slap and/or upper-register melodic playing).

I still think that it is a great bass for the money...I tossed around the idea of swapping out the pick-ups many times, but decided that even if I like the sound, string spacing was still an issue.
