6 string bass...

So I was down at Guitar Center tonight, going through my normal wishlist (picking out the good Stingrays from the better ones), when out of curiousity I picked up and started playing an Ibanez 6-string bass... It was only $600 or so dollars... but it definately sounded really good, and I'm not normally a 6-string person (actually I'm a 4-stringer). In fact, I can almost say that it was <i>easy</i> to play! Now that I am no longer intimidated by the extra string, I'm considering purchasing one... What is a good $600-1200 6-string bass? I would normally use it in a reggae/jazz/punk setting, but I really love and can use any quality sound...

I think the new MTD Z6's can be had for just under $1200. I would definitely check those out.

The Ibanez SR506 is always a good call. You can also pick up a nice used Carvin, or do what I did and drop the cash for a new one. I've heard good things about Yamaha's sixes too, but I've never played one.
