T-bird, I was mostly comparing the Peavey pickups and electronics to the USA peavey cirrus, which is a much better instrument by far. Personally I think they're some of the sexiest basses out there, but to each his own.

You're comparing a passive bass to an active. I've a Grind,Cirrus and a Millennium and a couple of Foundations, now I could see comparing
the Cirrus and Millennium they've the same electrics. But the Grind's a different animal.
Another thing is USA Cirrus runs to £899 or 8400DKK, $1400 here in Europe,hardly in the budget range the OP mentioned.
I give a +1 to the Thomann HB. The 4 string arrived end of last month, damn fine bass and I know a couple of folk with the 7 string who are
happy too. 280 euro and the 30 day return policy is worth trying.

1) Jazz-style basses could be very metal. Opeth and RATM come to mind. Or Bryan Beller, who plays bass for Dethklok.
2) I wouldn't say unequivocally that Ibby SR506's are fat, tone-wise. Depending on amp/cab it could easily be very midrangy and aggressive. Some people like this, others have swapped the electronics (maybe to USA Barts, rather than the bart-designed/licensed pups that come stock)
I wouldn't say "unequivocally" either, but "aggressive" to me is my G&L L2500 not an Ibby with Barts. The G&L will peel paint off the walls of the room. Even though I am a big fan of Barts, they don't peel paint.
And as always, tone is where you find it.

Comparing any instrument against another is always very subjective, but in this case it's not an exactly fair comparison either.
Especially with the B-650.
Totally different materials of construction and very different SRP's.
Granted, quite a few "manufacturers" do get their instruments/amps from the same factories, even with the same exact parts, and yet price "their" products very differently when slapping on their badge, so the (high/low) price don't always tell the whole story.
A certain US amp manufacturer hoping no-one would notice comes to mind...

But, is the B-650 1/4, or the BZ-600 1/2 the instrument the ESP LTD or the Ibanez is, the answer is IMO no.
I don't have first hand experience of any of those basses, but it's hard to imagine the ESP LTD or the Ibanez being that much better to warrant the heftier price tag when compared with the HB's.
The ESP LTD and Ibanez will have a lot more street credibility and re-sale value, that's for sure though.

Seriously though I agree here with Sam. Are the ESP and the Ibanez twice as good ? I'd have to say no.
Couple of weeks back I put the BZ 4000 up against my Cirrus,Millennium, a Traben Neo and 2 Vintage a V 1004 / V1005. All cost twice as much, are active,
3 thru neck, 2 were bolt on. All had natural finishes. The BZ held it's own,if fact I preferred it to the Vintages.
Street cred and re-sale values are 2 factors I don't take in to account.
