I have owned a ZON lined fretless 6 since 2001. Hence my sig...
I tried many brands; "boutique" basses were the only 6 string fretless active basses available in those days. BTW..ZON is the least expensive in the "boutique" sales bracket.
Alembic, Ken Smith were outrageously expensive and felt either stiff or sterile in my taste. I knew Greg Curbow..R I P... even his basses cost thousands more and much heavier than ZON for same specs. All of his basses feel and sound great.
GC used to sell ZON. I had never heard of ZON and didn't want to be impressed by brand or price tag when making my next purchase / selection. Before trying any basses that day, I had my wife thoroughly blindfold me in the store. The GC sales guy plugged bass after bass into my powered head phones. Suddenly the most awesome bass I had ever heard came through the phones. I tore off the blindfold so I could see what this was...ZON...was on the headstock..never heard of it, but knew that was my next bass. The rest is history.
Close second for me was TOBIAS.
You can pay a lot more more.. you can pay less..for a 4
, 5 or 6 string fretless, I recommend ZON. [ I also recommend LINED regardless of brand ]
