'60 Jazz with Stack Knobs

This is a tribute to the Custom Shop version of the '60 Jazz bass. I've always admired the looks of this model, but was turned off by the typically fairly heavy weight of these not to mention the price. Therefor I decided to make my own. It starts with a lightly relic'd lightweight body from MJT finished in sonic blue nitro plus an Allparts neck. In this case, I actually used a precision neck since I prefer the wider nut. Lightweight reverse Gotoh Resolite tuners were used. The pickups are Fender Custom Shop '60's. The strings are La Bella flats. Without the chrome covers, it weighs in at a svelt 7 lbs 15oz and it balances perfectly. The covers bring it to about 8 lbs 4 oz. I'll be playing mostly with only the bridge cover on. I broke it in last night at a jam and am digging it so far.

Wow, that's tastefully done. Looks fantastic. Did MJT do the headstock paint/decal too?
No. I did the headstock myself with Reranch nitro. I believe it's MJT's policy to not place the Fender decals. Plus, I was able to save a few $$$ and it gave me something to do while waiting for the body. It took about 3 months to get the body, but it was well worth it. MJT does great work.

Nice work! Beautiful colour too.

However, I have to mention the elephant in the room: the fake logo.
I hear ya. The problem is that the esthetics don’t cut it without that logo. It simply doesn’t look right without Fender on the headstock. And not just any Fender logo, but the proper version. It isn’t going to matter until I’m dead, because I’ll never sell it. Lol!

Nice...i think the 60 JB is pretty classy looking with the stack knobs.

I picked up a C.S. instrument this past month in a moment of weakness. I don't want to talk about the price.. :(. Lets just say if i ate Ramen noodles, I'd be eating a lot of Ramen noodles in the months/years to come. Its an amazing sounding/feeling/playing bass though

The real deal! That's a beauty. I know those CS's are pricey. I treated myself to a used Pino a couple of years ago. Even my '60 jazz replica wasn't all that cheap to build. A lot of high-priced parts went into it. Just the Gotoh Resolite tuners are over $100, but are worth it.

thanks..trust me when say pictures really don't do it justice...I need to get it outside in natural light for good photos.

These really look best with the chrome covers on as well. I took mine off to do a setup and am not sure about putting them back on since i often pluck down near the bridge.

Yours looks to be a Journeyman in Lake Placid blue metallic? I'm sure that picks up the light very nicely.

Mine I gigged last night for the first time. I played it with the bridge cover on an the pickup cover off. It's probably the way I'll used it most. I don't like pickup covers other than for pictures.
