60th Anniversary Fender P

Just ordered one from Musiciansfriend this morning:bassist:
took advantage of their 15% pre-memorial day sale...came out to 1275.00... should be here thurs or friday...ordered a set of black beauties to string her up with...think maybe it needs an ashtray too!!

It seems to be a great mix of contemporary construction and classic feel/tone. I'm all but sold on picking one up. Just waiting until the finances agree with the idea. Let me know how the Musicians Friend piece works out. Is there a possible neck tension issue with the nylons on a neck (I assume) is meant for rounds?

Picked one up six weeks ago. 110% satisfied! And that's from a crotchety old whiner.

Check it out: by many reports, there's something wonderfully different about this year's Fender crop, at least to date, and excusing outliers.

About the nylons vs. rounds business... I assumed that I would immediately swap out the stock strings for flats. The stock strings are still on there. Man, it sounds and feels good!

Ok, here's a poser for you....here is a pic of the bass I just bought at Mf:

Here's a photoshop of what my bass will look like with black strings and an ashtray:

It needs the early 50's covers on it.

Bumping this thread as I just tried one out at a local music shop and came home in deep lust.

It didn't come home yet as I have to think long and hard about buying a P bass as I'm pretty much a dyed in the wool J guy. But the old school mojo and the build quality on the one I played has me considering.

This local shop wants pretty much full retail so that gives me another reason for pause as well: paying almost $1400 for a production P bass. On the other hand, I'd like to support the local shop who's struggling against Guitard Center and the bass guy at this shop does monster set-ups so this baby's ready to play out the door.:crying:

I've had mine about 6 weeks now and I'm totally loving it. Fit ,finish, playablity, tone.. all the best in any P I've ever owned. the only problem I have is the maple board seems to gunk up pretty quick, takes a little more maintenance than a rosewood fingerboard. Currently got it strung with Black Beauties and got a Tele stlye bridge cover, although I havent got the courage up yet to drill holes in the body:eek:

I saw one of these today at a Guitar Center, but with a sunburst finish. I was under the impression that Fender was only doing the blonde finish for this special edition. And for the life of me I cannot find an image of this bass in sunburst online.

I saw one offered on one of the websites (Musicians Friend, zzounds, etc.) Can't remember which. It looked good, but I personally prefer the blonde.

I played one of those about two months ago. What a player!

Little story, here. I recently got a new Warmoth neck for my Jazz bass. When I took my bass and the neck to the tech he asked me how I wanted it to be set up. I walked over, grabbed the 60th Anniversay P bass, handed it to him and said "like this. Use this bass as a model."

He did it!
