I have just become the proud owner of a set of 64 P Bass Pups and brass base plate. the only issue is that the base plate and pups are no longer connected. looks like the pups have been rewired at some point and I cleaned up the base plate as it was in pretty rough shape. Its also missing the foam pads.
I cant find the correct way to connect them, can anyone please else help?

The plate is not necessary. It serves no purpose, and hence its discontinuation after that era. In any case, it simply connects to the nearest ground point. The simplest thing to do is solder the pickup's ground to the plate, and then run a wire from the plate to the control cavity.
