65 Years Ago Today.................

I love seeing a piece of history like this still being played. It's sad to see so many very old instruments now so expensive that the owners are too scared to take them out and gig them or, worse still, bought by people who have no intention of playing them but buy them for their value like some oil painting.

I saw that but this one's a great player as is. If it was all or close to original I'd do the Bakelite saddles in a heartbeat.

I have a special affinity for these because when I was but a mere slip of a lad my very first real bass
was a 1970 Telecaster that I bought brand new with every nickel I saved from a part time job.
From the first moment I saw it in the Fender catalog I knew that was the bass I had to have.
Not the P or the J, that one. It was my only bass for over a dozen years.

I bought it strictly from first impressions without having any knowledge about it being a re-issue of the original P bass.
I still have most of it (with replacement body and pickup) and use it regularly.

So, for such a marvelous rebirth, what pickup are you using?

@2saddleslab this is a true heart warming story and this gentleman is a very deserving man to have this bass. We have spoken about various things and he has given awesome advice on my basses and playing, but he kept this a secret from me - How could you!!!!!

After tons of travel for both work and pleasure I'm finally home for a gig tonight and will enjoy celebrating over 6 decades of music played on this beauty.

It was 65 years ago, Fender wood shop employee, Eddie Miller, future member of The Country Music Songwriters Hall of Fame, penciled in his initials EM and the date Nov 7 51 inside the neck joint after taking a slab of wood and shaping it into what's believed to be one in the first batch of 23 Fender Electric Precision Basses in production [according to Bflat, TB historian on the genesis of the P bass].

This is the bass that keeps me up at night. This is the object of my desire. I own my own business and am fairly successful. I'll never be able to afford a bass like this. This bass ticks every spot for me. THIS is what a bass is supposed to look like. This is how it was meant to be. Hopefully one day I can strap one on and at least play it (terribly I might add) but owning one will always be a fleeting dream in the middle of the night.

Congrats on this one. It's a keeper.

Turned out great, thanks. The acoustics of this particular gig are very bass friendly so the full tonal spectrum was audible and she didn't disappoint.
