'66 Fender P-Bass w/case Score !!!

I can't believe you talked em down another twenty! I would have been shaking like a leaf trying to close that deal as fast as possible for fear that another customer might get nosey, or something else would blow the deal of a lifetime. Nice one!

Here come the sceptics...
Why can't you just be happy for the man? Original or not, it looks like he got a bass that he's happy with for only $150. If that's not a good deal, I don't know what is.

I'm not willing to do any research to try to prove him wrong, so I'll take him at his word. However, being skeptical of something like this in general is quite reasonable. Pawn shops tend to know when they have something of value, since that's their business - not to mention the dearth of reality TV shows lately. And most of the time, esp. with musical instruments made in the USA, they overprice them. It would be more believable if he just got a "good deal" cause they knew it was USA but didn't know the year, so maybe they sold it for $500 thinking it was just a well used recent vintage P bass. But honestly I've never even seen a mexican P bass in a pawn shop for $150.

Maybe if OP bought it from granny down the street who had it in her attic for 40 years, had no clue of the value, didn't give a damn, and just wanted to get the noise-making clutter out of her house, I wouldn't question it.

But pawnshops are usually very savvy when it comes to the value of things.

if you look at the price label he has on the neck, i'm guessing the tape is covering up the name of the pawn shop???
but if you look at the label, you see s:152770
fyi that serial number falls right in the middle of the 1966-1967 fender CBS serial numbers

"Somewhere"? It's on the neck plate where it should be, along with the big fat F.

Pot codes check out. Neck date stamp checks out. One glance at the neck and headstock checks out, as well as the hardware.

Pending closer inspection, the only question left is whether the black paint is original, and with that white guard my gut tells me it just might be. If so, that bass is worth a tidy sum.

Really a great score, 'grats again.

Same thing happen to me in 1991.
I scored a 1963-Dakota Red-L-series Jazz Bass for $200.00
Pawn shop thought it was a late 80's reissue.
I'll triple you money and give you $450.00 for you P-Bass ?:D

To the OP try and hold down your lunch while reading the back & fourth from the skeptics.

Really, you must at least understand that it sounds more than unbelievable, it actually sounds like total BS, completely fabricated and all that jazz.

Hell I bought my 62 Jazz for $100 bucks, so I've got you beat on the deal thing, and even I have a hard time believing this.

However that's what's so fun about it. If it was believable, that would also equate to boring.
Lol not too many believed me either when I first showed up, and now that I know a lot more about these things I completely understand why.

Anyway the point being that you shouldn't get upset at the skeptics, it's a hard pill to swallow, and I'm sure you know just how incredibly rare these are at regular price, let alone a deal, let alone a steal.

Congrats on a beautiful bass, awesome deal, and the enjoyment that is sure to follow as you play your new addition.

I'm not gonna call BS, anything is possible, but it surely does sound pretty far fetched.
Pawn shops in most cases know there stuff, but that doesn't mean they know vintage Fenders it's possible I guess.

I actually educated a local shop here on what these things fetch, and they were blown away and didn't believe me, until I had them pull up the info online.
You could see the worry on their face thinking back to every Fender they ever touched.

And I kicked myself all the way home thinking if I was EVER gonna steal a Fender from a pawn shop dirt cheap it was there and I just ruined that possibility. :D oh well!!
