I think the oval tuners were just left over from a previous run of some Jazz basses and they didn't want them to go to waste. Or something like that.
I assumed OP was talking about the ink stamp on the neck being '66.
Like almost all the others, my pickguard crumbled and died but fortunately the pickup survived. And it has no trouble hearing all the harmonics.

What does it weigh? I had a '70 Tele bass and traded it in on a Ric 4001 a long time ago
I have a Fender Dirnt "telecaster looking" precision, but it's not the same.
not sure but i will find out. lighter than my american precision for sure. very light
Are you referring to neck plate date or ink stamp in the neck heel? I would be really surprised if the neck was made is '66, but then again stranger things have happened.

That's probably a pretty special bass. The '66 ink stamp implies the neck was part of the prototype production that was set aside until later. Means there's a good chance it's an original blank from the early '50s that finally got finished in '66. Maybe.
The plate serial number is theoretically from '69, but those things got mixed around nine ways from Sunday and don't mean a lot.

Some of the wires might be original but some are definitely new. The really good news is that's about how the original pickup should look. I really do like those old thangs. My bridge was looking like that just before I started my rebuild. Cleaned up pretty nice. My control plate was shot though. Neck looks really good to me.
A closer glance at the pickguard shows it's from a Dirnt model (the sandwiched black). Nothing wrong with that, and none of the originals have survived as far as I know.

i still talk to some locals who take pics for me from time to time. yes, all gone. used to do border duty at Coberg and trade cigs for stuff with the Czechs
I miss the frankenwein most of all. It's impossible to find a bottle stateside. The German wine imported all seems to be crap from the Mosel region, sweet wine. No sylvaner grapes anymore. And the beer, damn, at least I have a good German butcher and can get brats and brotchen. No good shashlik though.
