My condolences on the loss of your wife. My wife is a cancer survivor going on 16 years now.

Sounds like you are excited about this bass which is good. I have owed a CAR 1967 Fender Coronado II since I was a kid and my excitement for my bass has never dwindled.
When I came to TB, I found that many TBers do not like this bass, and for the life of me, I don’t know why because it’s one of my favorite basses to play.
So, if you feel this way about yours, you will never sell it, I know I won’t.

Yeah, they're way up on ebay too and most of them are from Japan. I paid 1600.00 for my C a few years ago, would have been nice to get a D but they were up about 1000.00 from the C prices.

A long time ago I had a C that I added a Bill Lawrence blade humbucker to in the bridge position (didn't have to route, just 2 small screws) and made it into a D. Actually sounded really good!

I don't know. Bill's last company was called Wylde (or Wilde?). The pickup I used was probably from 1975 or thereabouts.

If you want this as a collector's item, I think it's a very risky buy. Based on the price guide on reverb.com, it is priced high. I wouldn't buy it.

If you want it as a instrument to be played, I wouldn't do it either.

I used to play keyboards in a band with a guy who owned one of these ~ this vintage. It was a beautiful, well-made bass. Unfortunately, it just didn't sound all that great. Our band did some studio work too and the engineer absolutely refused to record us with that bass because it was so muddy-sounding (even with the bass-kill switch engaged)

EB-2 is my dream bass as well, but I'm mainly in the hunt for the Epi reissues.

My guess is, something else was at stake, and the engineer didn't want to name it, and used the iffy bass as an excuse.

The story is TRUE. No compressors, EQ or other processors could make that Gibson sound decent in the mix. The solution was to use a Ric 4001 that was hanging on the wall of the control room into the hands of the bass player. The studio was equipped with large UREI monitors so there was no problem hearing exactly what was going on.

I guess the engineers who recorded The Cream had unique talent. I always enjoyed the way they sounded on record. The bass wasn't the problem, an engineer choosing a musician's instrument was the problem.

The EB-3 that Jack Bruce used is entirely different than a EB-2 hollow body - even recorded direct into the console. The audio engineer was simply trying to do a good job of making the band sound its best - and what he did was absolutely right.

Looks pretty sweet for being 49 years old. I think I will keep her.
