69 Gibson Bass in Cherry.

I was about to say the only Gibson of that era I would pay that kind of money for would be an EB2 in great condition. So watching with some degree of interest. ;)

A couple of things to bear in mind here:

a) Instruments marked as "vintage" only have a 3-day return window under the GC rules.

b) I would be *very* hesitant to buy an EB-2 of *any* kind without playing it first since I've seen more than just a couple that were in need of a neck reset, and badly so.

c) $2800 is on a high end of the spectrum for these basses in a standard colour. Having said that, I've been trying to spend less on an EB-2D for 3-4 months now and haven't gotten one yet....:sour:

Here we go - built in 1969 in Kalamazoo Mich. Checked through Gibson serial number date. Gave all the pics I got from Mass. Tell me what you think. Mike B.

is that a greenstick crack or finish check on the neck where the fingers are? Hard to tell.......

As far as price, "value" is up to the individual......Only you can answer if 2800 is too much or not

If you want this as a collector's item, I think it's a very risky buy. Based on the price guide on reverb.com, it is priced high. I wouldn't buy it.

If you want it as a instrument to be played, I wouldn't do it either.

I used to play keyboards in a band with a guy who owned one of these ~ this vintage. It was a beautiful, well-made bass. Unfortunately, it just didn't sound all that great. Our band did some studio work too and the engineer absolutely refused to record us with that bass because it was so muddy-sounding (even with the bass-kill switch engaged)

Thank you for your input, I have 3 days to play it and if it is indeed a not so great sounding bass, I give it back to GC. Once again I appreciate your help. Mike B.
