Price drop: asking $20,000 (heading to the Bass Cellar next week, I'll pull the ad once I put it on consignment there)

Large 7/8 German "Hornsteiner" bass, ca.1880, huge sound, dark tone
42.5" string length
C-extension

I purchased this bass in 2014 from Nashville bassist Glenn Worf, who used it extensively in his session work (including with Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris). It is in excellent condition, with modern restoration updates prior to my purchase (new neck/scroll graft and fingerboard, endpin, bridge), and it is bulletproof (withstands weather/humidity changes very well, is consistent throughout the year). This is a bass that can sit in a section wearing Spirocores (they bow like a dream on this one), or drive a big band wearing Flexocores. I've done both, and it's just a great bass that works well with any string, pickup, amp, etc. It's a wonderful instrument that serves well in all professional settings (with the exception of acrobatic solo work, I suppose).

Available for trial in Bloomington, IN, and I will meet buyers halfway within, say, a 4-hour drive radius.

Partial trades considered; I may be interested in decent workhorse double basses worth <$10K, and I'm always interested in vintage Fender bass guitars.

Terry Fresh is from the Goofers is the only bassist I’ve heard of that ever did acrobatic bass work, so I guess we’ll never know for sure. You might have seen pictures or video of him swinging from the rafters upside down while playing bass.

That bass sounds fantastic, and that video with John Clayton is pure gold.

Bumping this--kept quiet because I was using it on a project I needed the C extension for. This is a really special, lifetime bass, and I'll say again that I'm happy to consider partial trades--a workhorse Juzek, an American Standard, a cool EUB, a vintage Fender, a Sadowsky 5-string, that kind of thing.

Hi Kurt (and all), the bass is still available and is in my possession, but I am taking it to the Cellar on Saturday morning. I've been playing it all summer but I need to get it out of the house before fall. (I wish I could justify having two "lifetime" basses.)

Thanks!
