Whos got 'em??? I'm just curious how many 7 stringed friends I have out there... I'm just saving to buy my buddies 6 string but one day I'd like to purchase a 7... tell me why you play so many strings, any pros/cons you can think of, what made you try your first 7 and why you wont "come back to Earth" as Steve Bailey put it...

And if you have any pictures to help the GAS as well thats awesome!! :bassist:

they intrigue me- that should be a poll option!

i can see a lot of potential particularly for someone like me who plays solo with a looping pedal
I'd really rather try one before i buy , not much chance of that round here though since i can't even find a 6 to try out in the local shops

I played a Conklin Groove Tools 7 string at Bass Central one day.

Though it's not a body style I find appealing, (upper horn) it was a very well built bass. The action was like "buttah" with I wasn't really expecting, the string spacing and girth of the neck weren't as much of a chore as I was expecting it to be, it was very user friendly. IMO what made this bass so nice to play when going into the upper registers was the neck heel. It's bolt on but the heel is a nice, smooth transition into the body that it has a neck thru type look and feel to it. It sounded pretty good too. IIRC it was tuned BEADGCE though.

After playing one I can see the appeal to them, especially if you want to solo or chord.

bought my Conklin back in 1998, played it for about 4-5 years before switching back to a 4 string..

I was doing a steady country gig with 4 nights per week, 6 sets per night.. Sold it after I quit the band..

I really miss it, but I don't see myself going back..

bought an unpaired 8 string a year ago F#.B.E.A.D.G.C.F... sold it after about a month...

I've owned three seven-strings over the years. The high F string has been difficult to integrate into my playing because the tone seems quite different from the high C and G, so I'm set with six-strings for now. I'd be happy to try another seven if I could get a girthier-sounding high F out of it.
