Hi. I'm considering adding a Schaller Roller Bridge to a '72 Mm. I did this before on a '78 I refurbed some years ago but don't remember how I located the proper spot. Gonna need to drill new holes. I've already upgraded the pup to Aero direct replacement and want to continue to improve this bass if possible to make it a bit more of a player, not just a novelty. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bob

'72 Musicmaster bass bridge swap

If you can find it, Gotoh makes a bridge for the single coil Precision bass where the two brass saddles can be angled and then tightened with a hex keys, making intonation possible and preserving the stock look. The saddles fit the MM and Bronco bridge right away, no drilling necessary.
I have upgraded my MM basses with the bridge that comes with the Squier Vista Series. It have strings through body. The bass will look as an original one, but will have a barrel for each string.
That's what I did when refurbing my '78 MM. But getting your hands on one of those bridges is no easy task.
Placement: unscrew the intonation screw of the G saddle as far as it will go and still have the saddle securely on the plate, or in its grooves if the plate has grooves for the height adjustment screws. Measure from the fretboard edge of the nut to the crown of the 12th fret. Double this measurement. Mount the bridge so the G string saddle break point is at this latter measurement from the fretboard edge of the nut.
Bridges: I have found this inexpensive 4-saddle bridge to be better for narrow string spacing short and medium scale 4-string basses. It has the same string spacing as the 2-saddle original, and enough travel on the intonation screws to intonate properly. @$20. I have one of these on two of my basses, including my short-scale travel bass. Oh, BTW - read my posts in other short scale bass threads. I highly recommend GHS Balanced Pure Nickel strings - God's gift to short scale bass players for all the reasons posted in my other posts.

No. it's a bridge for the SCPB with two saddles only, however they can be tilted and secured with a hex key
ok I'll keep looking for my '78 MMB. There is a Squire Bronco bridge on eBay that I can do a local pickup on so I might just get that foe the saddles. Mine are clapped out and the flat blade slots are pretty stripped.

Thanks! I was hoping I could find one less than $60, but if that bolts right up on the top.... wait, I need the ball ends to mount to the bridge, it's not a through body...
You might be able to reuse the saddles with a different bridge although it seems like the Musicmaster might be narrower then the Pbass.

Yeah there is a local seller on eBay with a newish Bronco bridge that I am bidding on just for the saddles.
If I lose out on that I might just try these:
