$750 new. Seems like a good deal

Well, perhaps it is but understand that it’s not a 1,200 watt amplifier into a single 8 ohm speaker it’s a 700 watt amp. Now that’s still a great deal of power and Yamaha is a very reputable company. If you like the sound of an Ampeg Tone Stack for Double Bass and only intend to use a pickup you’re only missing a HPF like the FDeck HPF Nuffer Preamp.

What speaker cab/s would you run this through?

I had an Ampeg solid state head that was spec'd as 800 W at 4 Ohms and 400 W at 8 Ohms. I had a hard time finding any cab that could tolerate it at gig volumes. I always had to be very careful. Eventually, I sold the amp...but kept two of its three matching cabs.
